# Inclusive Odisha Foundation (IOF) and Its Founder Goutam Behera

## A Journey from Darkness to Purpose

My name is Goutam Behera, a visually impaired accessibility advocate and founder of Inclusive Odisha Foundation (IOF). My journey has not been easy, but it has taught me that challenges can become opportunities to create positive change.

There was a time when I experienced significant vision loss and felt hopeless about my future. Like many people facing disability-related challenges, I often wondered what my life would become. At one stage, I even thought about giving up because I believed I was alone in my struggle.

Everything changed in 2023 when I joined ITI training at Special ITI, Jatni, Khordha, Odisha. For the first time, I met many visually impaired students from different backgrounds. Before joining the institute, I believed that I was the only person facing such challenges. However, meeting others showed me that many people were living, learning, and working successfully despite visual impairment.

This experience completely changed my mindset. I learned new skills, gained confidence, and discovered that blindness does not mean inability. I met inspiring individuals who taught me how to use technology, develop independence, and participate actively in society.

From that moment, I decided that I wanted to do something meaningful for other visually impaired people.

## Learning, Growing, and Building a Vision

Although I had a strong desire to help others, I faced a major challenge: lack of financial resources. I often wondered how I could make a difference without money.

My journey continued when I became associated with the Odisha Association for the Blind. There, I learned more about disability rights, accessibility, assistive technology, and the needs of visually impaired individuals.

Later, I was selected for a call center job. Working in a corporate environment helped me gain practical experience and improve my skills. During this period, I learned to use screen readers and various assistive technologies more effectively.

After six months in the corporate sector, I worked as a Computer Trainer and later as a Technology Trainer. These roles gave me the opportunity to teach and support other visually impaired students while expanding my own knowledge.

Every step of this journey strengthened my belief that technology and education can transform lives.

## The Birth of Inclusive Odisha Foundation

With a vision to support persons with disabilities, I launched Inclusive Odisha Foundation (IOF) in 2025 as an online initiative.

The foundation started with a simple website created with limited resources but a clear mission: to make information, education, and accessibility resources available to everyone.

Over time, the website has grown and continues to improve. Today, visitors can access:

* Important news and updates
* Educational articles
* Government guidelines and circulars
* Downloadable PDF resources
* Educational YouTube videos
* Accessibility and technology information
* Disability-related awareness content

The website serves as a platform for learning, empowerment, and inclusion.

## Our Mission

Inclusive Odisha Foundation aims to:

* Promote accessibility and inclusion
* Support visually impaired and other disabled individuals
* Provide educational and technology resources
* Spread awareness about disability rights
* Encourage skill development and employment
* Create equal opportunities through technology and education

## Our Future Vision

Inclusive Odisha Foundation is currently an online initiative, but our dream is much bigger.

Our long-term vision is to establish a physical training center where visually impaired individuals and non-disabled individuals can learn together in an inclusive environment.

We aim to provide:

* Computer and digital literacy training
* Screen reader and accessibility courses
* Employment and skill development programs
* Technology training
* Inclusive educational opportunities
* Career guidance and mentorship

We believe that true inclusion happens when people learn, work, and grow together regardless of disability.

## A Message from the Founder

My journey taught me that disability is not the end of life. The challenges I faced became the foundation of my purpose.

Inclusive Odisha Foundation was created not because I had abundant resources, but because I had a vision. Through education, accessibility, technology, and community support, we hope to create a future where every person has the opportunity to succeed.

Together, we can build a more inclusive Odisha and a more accessible India.
